The COVE

is located on the far right side of baldwin beach in Paia. 

Few facts:

• hardly any tourist
• LOTS of hippies
• good beach for doggies 
• don't be surprised to see bums & hobos
• the water is a tad bit dirty 

BUT
it's close to us upcountry-ers which is always a plus

ACAI ENERGY BOWL

Oh my lord, I love this coffee shop. Not especially for the coffee, but for the food. I like to come eat here because it's only five minutes away from my house and it's affordable. 

So if you have never been here, here's what to get:

ACAI ENERGY BOWL: very very very good. It's basically an acai thick smoothie topped with granola, blueberries, strawberries, and bananas. Tip: this dish is perfect

GARDEN BURGER: Don't get me wrong, I love meat. Meat will always have a special place in my heart, but this veggie sandwich is ono-licious. Tip: you have to get it with cheese and avocado.

CHILI & RICE: When it's cold outside (which is most of the time in Kula), chili and rice is always good. Tip: eat it there because if you get it to-go you get gipped. 

FROYO: TUTTI FRUTTI

I really really really like frozen yogurt: froyo. It's the healthier alternative to ice cream, but what happens when you eat froyo more than you ever ate ice cream? Is it still healthier? Just a thought from a concerned avid froyo eater.

Tutti Frutti has two locations: Kahalui and Kihei

It is definitely my favorite frozen yogurt franchise out of Yogurtland (ew) and Orange Leaf (double ew).

When I go to TuttiFrutti, I like to pile my yogurt with fruits and almonds. And if I want to live a little, I add some mochi.

Sushi Time

I am in love with sushi. You can't blame me, my parents have owned a sushi restaurant ever since I can remember. So I may be bias when I say this, but my dad makes the best sushi in the entire world.

Makawao Sushi & Deli has been around for about 7 years or so. Personally I wouldn't go there for anything but ice cream and sushi. Mainly because ice cream is always good and the sushi is really expensive. Might as well spend your money on something 100 percent worthy of your hard earned bucks: the sushi.

Luckily for me, sushi is always free. The day I pay for sushi will be the day the world comes to an end. And luckily for my friends, they get free sushi too. (Probably the only reason they're friends with me). This is me and Midori getting our sushi on:(note: it's very difficult to eat sushi without looking like a beast)

69 ROLL: California Roll topped with unagi which is topped with tobiko, green onion, unagi sauce, and sesame seeds.

PHILADELPHIA ROLL: Cooked salmon with cream cheese (YUM) & chili sauce, spicy sauce, and furikake on top.

The BEST FROZEN YOGURT on MAUI

(according to me)

Mana Foods has been in business for over 25 years according to the sign outside of the grocery store. I don't care if it's only been there for a day, they produce the best and cheapest frozen yogurt.

Although there is one slight flaw about this place: you never know if there's any left (because it's so yummy) or if you'll go on a good day. Also, there are only six flavors to my knowledge. Here's my scale of what good, eh, and just plain bad:

NOTE: it is always fun to eat your froyo into a shape. Midori made a mountain and I made, well uh, a doughnut. 

SHAVE ICE

Before I moved to Maui, shave ice only existed in the form of snow balls. Snow balls are balls of ice frozen with food coloring on them. They taste like poop. I was 8 years old when I had my first shave ice and when I instantly realized I had been deprived my entire childhood. 

This shave ice stand was walking distance from our spot on the beach. So it was extra convenient for us and the babies. It was located on the grassy side of the side walk. Everyone was extremely excited. But when I got there I had to make one of the most difficult decisions of my life:

shave ice or chocolate frozen banana?

I had always wanted a frozen banana ever since I watch Arrested Development, so I got the frozen banana. And I had some shave ice too.

JK: HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN WORKING ON THIS PAINTING?
HD: THE OVERALL PROCESS HAS TAKEN ALL YEAR, BUT THE BIG FINAL-ABOUT THREE WEEKS.
 

JK: DID YOU ALWAYS KNOW YOU WANTED AN ART REAL RELATED SENIOR PROJECT?
HD: I WAS ORIGINALLY AFRAID TO DO IT BECAUSE I WAS WORRIED ABOUT WHAT PEOPLE WOULD THINK. I DID A SHARE OUT IN MS. LONG'S CLASS AND SOME KID ASKED "DO YOU THINK YOU'RE AN ARTIST OR SOMETHING?"

JK: WHAT WAS THE HARDEST PART ABOUT YOUR PRODUCT?
HD: LEARNING WHILE I WAS PAINTING. I MADE MORE MISTAKES WHICH IS TOUGH BECAUSE I'M DOING SOMETHING EVERYONE WILL JUDGE. AND EVERYONE WILL BE JUDGING SOMETHING I REALLY REALLY LOVE.

JK: WHAT DO YOU LIKE MOST?
HD: THE OCEAN IS MY FAVORITE PART OF MY PAINTING. I WENT TO THE BEACH NUMEROUS TIMES TO WATCH THE SUNSET AND EACH TIME I NOTICED SOMETHING I DIDN'T BEFORE.

HD: AN ARTIST HAS THE ABILITY TO EXPRESS EMOTIONS AND EVERY ARTIST INTERPRETS IT IN AN ENTIRELY DIFFERENT WAY.
